NCAA College Football: Last Season in Review – Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s 2024 season was a wild ride from start to finish. With Jimbo Fisher out and Mike Elko stepping in, Aggies fans knew change was coming — but few expected just how chaotic the journey would be.
They finished 8-5. Respectable on paper. But the story behind those numbers reveals a team still searching for stability, even as signs of progress began to emerge.
A New Era Begins
Elko took over with a clear mandate: fix the culture, modernize the offense, and squeeze more out of a roster that’s long been heavy on stars and light on results. He brought intensity, accountability, and a fresh energy that showed up immediately on defense. The Aggies were more physical, more disciplined, and more opportunistic.
Offensively, though, the picture was murkier.
The Quarterback Carousel
Quarterback play defined (and derailed) the season. Conner Weigman started strong before a season-ending injury in Week 4. Max Johnson had flashes but couldn’t sustain drives against top-tier defenses. By November, the Aggies were rotating quarterbacks and patching holes just to stay afloat.
The offense never found rhythm. Explosive plays were rare. Red zone efficiency? Inconsistent. And without a true identity, they struggled to close out winnable games.
Signature Wins, Head-Scratching Losses
Texas A&M pulled off an emotional win against LSU to close the regular season — a performance that hinted at what this team could be. But those moments were counterbalanced by baffling losses to South Carolina and Mississippi State, games where the Aggies looked flat and unprepared.
It was the definition of a rollercoaster. One week they punched up. The next, they unraveled.
The Elko Effect
Still, it’s clear Elko has them trending in the right direction. The defense made legitimate strides, finishing top 25 in yards allowed per game. The effort level was higher. Penalties were down. And the locker room vibe — per players and insiders—was drastically improved.
That counts for something, especially for a program that’s often been more hype than results.
2025 Outlook
Texas A&M enters 2025 as a dangerous unknown. The roster is still loaded with blue-chip talent. If they can solve the quarterback position and unlock a more aggressive offensive scheme, they could make serious noise in the SEC.
From a betting standpoint, the Aggies could offer real value early in the season — especially in underdog spots. They’re still a tier below the elites, but don’t be surprised if Elko turns them into a spoiler by midseason.
If 2024 was the reset button, 2025 is where we find out how high this team’s ceiling really is.
